Pembridge Ecology Group Focuses on Riverside Conservation Area
The Pembridge Ecology Group is open to all Pembridge residents who want to do their bit for nature conservation. We spoke to founding member, Safi Zagni, about the forthcoming programme of events.
“After Easter, we will meet on Sunday afternoons (2pm-5pm), alternating our activities between site management, species identification and wildlife spotting, ecological surveys, and appreciation of this peaceful, natural environment.
Our program is as follows:
7th April - Site walk and habitat plans
14th April - Working Party: clearing debris
21st April - Focus on botany
28th April - Appreciating new growth
5th May - Working Party: reducing balsam
12th May - Focus on mosses and liverworts
19th May - Finding species yourself
26th May - Appreciating patterns
Meet at 2pm at the entrance to the Conservation Area (opposite the Bridge Street car park). We have a WhatsApp group as our main form of communication. For those who don’t use WhatsApp, we will keep in touch via text, email, landline, or leaflets. Our plans for later in the year include a weekday, morning working party and a newsletter. As well as the village Conservation Area, we are carrying out garden hedgerow surveys, Parish bird watching outings, local fungus forays, and the collation of nature records both past and present.”
If you would like to get involved, please message Safi on 07360 205777 giving your name and contact details, or pop a note through her door: The Garth, West Street (red front door).
