Pembridge and Shobdon Royal British Legion Trip to Bletchley Park  -27th September 2023

Pembridge and Shobdon RBL will be visiting Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire, home of the WWII code breakers, on 27th September. The trip is open to non-members and more details are available from mistletoebough@btinternet.com
During World War II this country estate housed the Government Code and Cypher School. It played a vital role in protecting Allied troops and bringing the war to a successful and early end by breaking the encryption of enemy communications. The team led by Alan Turing, Gordon Welchman, Hugh Alexander, and Bill Tutte built Colossus, the world’s first programmable digital electronic computer.
The work of Bletchely Park personnel was a carefully guarded secret, only declassified in the 1970s. The film, “The Imitation Game”, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, tells the story of Alan Turing and his fellow codebreakers. It provides an insight into wartime life at Bletchley Park, which went largely unrecognised until many years later.
You are welcome to join us on the trip for which there are a few places available.
