Pembridge CE Primary School - Foundation Governor Wanted
Do you want to contribute to your local community and get involved in children’s education?
Are you willing to challenge and ask questions?
Are you open to new ideas, willing to learn and interested in gaining new skills?
Would you like to make a difference and work as part of a team?
Are you supportive of the school’s distinctively Christian ethos? And be prepared to develop links between school, home, and church?
If so, you may be interested in becoming a Foundation Governor. We are looking for people in our community who are willing to help our school to continue to thrive and offer outstanding education in Pembridge.
What do Governors do?
Governing bodies are responsible for setting the long term aims and objectives of the school and supporting the Headteacher and staff to achieve these. Volunteering to become a governor is very rewarding and a great way to contribute to the community, meet new people, and help improve the lives of local children. It’s also a way of learning new skills and putting your existing skills to good use. As a Foundation Governor, you will have special additional responsibilities: you are appointed to ensure, as far as practicable, that the character of the school,as a voluntary (Church of England) school, is preserved and developed.
Do I need any special qualifications?
No, but you do to have a commitment to the role and to be able to give a bit of time. You don’t need to be a parent or connected to any pupils. You need to be able to attend governing body meetings, usually two or three per term. An important part of the role is to support and challenge the school. Governors need to have an open and enquiring mind, be able to listen and make informed judgements, join in debate and ask questions, and be willing to work with other members of the governing body in shaping the future of the school. You will need to pass enhanced safeguarding checks.
