Wildlife Around Pembridge Church
Wildlife Walks
St Mary’s Church, Pembridge was the venue for a weekend of nature walks as part of the Bats in Churches and national Love Your Burial Ground Week. The early June sunshine welcomed parishioners to a bat watch and talk on Saturday evening, which followed an afternoon of bat related activities for children. See our interview with Dr Alison Barnett who explained why bats are important to us and why they love to make their homes in churches. www.portraitofpembridge.co.uk/news-1/why-bats-matter-and-what-we-can-do-to-help-them
On Sunday afternoon Esther Clarke, who lives in Marston and works for Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, led a nature walk through the churchyard. This was briefly interrupted by a swarm of bees who liked the look of the churchyard, but resumed once they settled down.
The church was also visited by members of Herefordshire Historic Churches who were able to admire the 14th century church, the Pembridge Tapestries, and the panel of medieval decoration in the Lady Chapel.
