Poppy Appeal Launch
This year’s appeal will be launched at the Pembridge Parish Hall Coffee Morning on Saturday 19th October. Pembridge & Shobdon Royal British Legion will host the event from 10.30-12 noon.
As well as the usual coffee, cakes, and chat, there will be an opportunity to learn about the work of the RBL in supporting veterans and their families and to contribute to its work by making a donation.
The following Saturday 26th October the RBL will be at the Pembridge Tabletop Sale with a book stall to raise funds for the appeal between 9am and 12 noon. Donations of books are welcome and can be brought to the Hall on the day or contact Kay at ingramkay3@gmail.com or 07342 625796.
From mid-October to 11th November many of our local businesses will be hosting collection boxes and we thank them for their continued support.
Local members of the RBL will be collecting door-to-door during the period leading up to 10th November when the annual Remembrance Service and parade will take place from the War Memorial to the church.
The War Memorial records the names of those local men who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The late Rory McColl researched the life and service record of each of these and you can read their stories at www.portraitofpembridge.co.uk/warmemorial
This retelling of their sacrifice brings home to us how war can touch the lives of people innocently pursuing an ordinary life with devastating consequences. It is a lasting legacy which Rory has left for Pembridge and will live on in his memory too.
Pembridge & Shobdon Poppy Appeal raised over £9,000 in 2023 including support for collections in Dilwyn, Eardisland, and Wigmore. We hope to exceed that this year and thank everyone for their generous donations.
