D Day 80 Celebrations- The Day’s Programme
D Day, 6 th June 1944, marked a turning point in World War II. This year, 80 years on, Pembridge Church, School, RBL, Parish Hall, and Portrait of Pembridge have organised a day to remember. There will be something for everyone in the day’s events which start at 10.45am and go on late into the evening. All events are free to attend. Here’s a suggested itinerary for the day.
Start with the Remembrance at the War Memorial, followed by a performance from the school choir,* before a fish and chips lunch at the New Inn, which is now sold out.
If you’ve missed the fish and chips, hang on till 3pm when the Church will put on a cream tea at the Parish Hall and browse the exhibition “ Pembridge at War” by Portrati of Pembridge. There’s also a collection of WWII military vehicles to see.
If looking for an evening meal tuck into a Pizza from Pembridge Pizzas or a Beefy Boys burger followed by some Heavenly Fudge or Divine Donuts. A licenced bar will be available.
To work that lot off try your hand at skittles and other games at the Parish Hall before settling down to hear the award-winning Love to Sing Community Choir. There will be a beacon lit at 9.15pm, part of a national chain. To really get you in the mood Hereford Swing Band will be performing live from 8pm with a 1940s disco providing a moonlight serenade until late.
*Please register for this event as numbers are limited due to space constraints.
